What we collect

ownthread (operated by Lantern Reader, Inc.) collects only what’s necessary to help you design and order your own clothes. This includes:

• Account information: Your email address and, if you choose one, your public maker handle. ownthread is passwordless — you sign in with single-use email links, so we never collect or store a password.
• Your designs: The prompts you write, your conversation with the design tools, the generated design images, and the choices you make about fit, fabric, and artwork.
• Images you upload: Reference photos of clothing or artwork you add to a design, and private fit references (photos of garments that fit you the way you like, plus fit preferences). If you request a private style reading, this also includes the outfit photos or social-media screenshots you choose for that reading.
• Order information: When you request a garment or place a deposit — sizing, quantity, and, when it’s time to make and ship your piece, your shipping and contact details.
• Technical logs and analytics: Basic server logs (IP addresses, timestamps) for security and debugging, and privacy-respecting product analytics about how the site is used.

We do not sell your data. We do not track you across the web.

How we use your data

• Making your designs: Your prompts, messages, and uploaded references are used to generate and refine your garment designs.
• Reading your style: The outfit photos you choose and any optional direction you add are used to identify recurring clothing choices, explain garment vocabulary, and suggest original garments.
• Making your garments: Your design, sizing, and fit information is used to produce the piece you order, including human designer review before anything goes to production.
• Service improvement: Aggregated, anonymized usage data helps us understand what works and where things break.
• Communication: Today we send only service email — sign-in links, links back to your designs, order updates, and occasional feedback requests about an order. If we ever add non-essential email, it will include an unsubscribe link.

Private style readings and photo retention

Style wardrobes and readings require a verified ownthread account. We retain normalized copies of the outfit photos you add so you can reuse them, revisit the evidence behind a reading, and build future readings as your style changes. A failed or stalled reading does not automatically delete those wardrobe photos. Photo files and reading APIs are restricted to the signed-in owner; our ordinary admin interface displays file metadata, not the photo itself.

You can delete one reading while keeping its wardrobe photos. Deleting a photo also deletes readings that cite it, because those readings would no longer have their supporting evidence. You can also delete all style photos and readings without deleting your account or ordinary designs, or delete the full account through Worktable. Deleted files enter our durable deletion queue for removal from file storage.

What’s public and what stays private

Designs are unlisted by default: a design in progress is reachable only by someone who has its link, and it appears nowhere public. Treat a design link like the design itself — anyone holding it can open the design, including the conversation and reference images. A design becomes public if you create a share link or publish it to your maker page: the public page shows a frozen copy of the design — the concept images and description — which others may save, and, when the link allows remixing (links shared from the design flow do), remix into a separate design of their own.

Shared pages never expose your email address, your chat history, your fit photos or fit preferences, your style-wardrobe photos or readings, or your original uploaded artwork files. Your maker page shows only the handle you choose and the designs you explicitly publish.

Who we share data with

We share your data only when necessary to run the service:

• AI providers: Design prompts, conversation text, and images are processed by AI providers (such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI, and fal.ai) to generate designs and renders. For a style reading, the provider receives the outfit photos you selected and your optional direction. We do not attach your account email or other account details, but the photos themselves may visibly contain you or other people.
• Manufacturing partners: When you order a garment, we share the design specifications, measurements, and shipping details needed to make and deliver your piece.
• Payment processing: Stripe handles all payments. We never see your full card number.
• Infrastructure: Hosting (Render), file storage for uploaded and generated images (Amazon Web Services), email delivery (Resend), analytics (PostHog), and error monitoring (Sentry) providers process data on our behalf to keep the service running.
• Business transfers: If Lantern Reader, Inc. is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred to the successor, which must honor this policy.
• Legal obligations: If required by law, we may disclose information to comply with subpoenas, court orders, or other legal processes.

That’s it. We share your data only with the categories listed above.

Your rights

You own your data. Here’s what you can do:

• Access: Request a copy of the data we have about you.
• Correction: Update your account information anytime.
• Deletion: Delete your account yourself from the Worktable on the web or the Account tab in the app, or ask us by email. Once deleted, it’s gone (though we may retain anonymized aggregates, and records we’re legally required to keep, such as payment records). If your account has a deposit or an order on record, contact us and we’ll close it with you. Anonymous designs that carry only your email address have the address removed rather than being deleted, and unexpired design links you already requested keep working until they expire (at most 30 days).
• Export: Request your designs and data in a portable format.

Security

• Sign-in is passwordless: single-use email links whose credentials are stored only as cryptographic digests.
• All connections use HTTPS encryption.
• Payments run entirely on Stripe’s hosted, PCI-compliant checkout.
• Access to production systems is tightly controlled, and we keep dependencies patched.

No system is perfectly secure. If you discover a vulnerability, please report it responsibly to hello@ownthread.com.

Cookies & browser storage

• Authentication cookies: Keep you signed in.
• Analytics: Our analytics run without cookies. Aside from the first-visit record described below, nothing is persisted on your device for analytics or advertising.
• Browser storage: We use your browser’s session and local storage to remember in-progress designs on this device, and to keep a first-visit record of how you arrived — the ownthread page you landed on and a traffic category derived from the referrer or campaign parameters (the raw URLs and parameters themselves are not stored). We use that record to understand which pages bring people in.

We may update our cookie and storage practices over time. If we do, we’ll update this policy.

Children’s privacy

ownthread is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we’ll delete it.

International users

ownthread is operated from the United States. If you’re using it from outside the US, your data will be transferred to and processed in the US. By using ownthread, you consent to this transfer.

We strive to comply with GDPR (Europe), CCPA (California), and other privacy regulations. If you have specific questions about compliance, reach out.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally. When we do, we’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top and notify you via email if the changes are significant. Continued use of ownthread after changes means you accept the updated policy.
